Painting studio, research library and exhibition space

Design of the exhibition at Lower Belvedere
The former premises of a wigmaker in Vienna’s fifth district, near the Naschmarkt, were converted into a painter’s studio, research library, and exhibition space for the artist couple Markus Muntean and Adi Rosenblum. The load-bearing walls in the exhibition area were completely removed and replaced with reinforced concrete frames, creating a large open space that is structured into three zones by newly introduced doorways. The entrance leads directly into the library, while the quiet rear area with access to the courtyard patio serves as a contemplative painting studio.

To preserve the uninterrupted spatial effect of the canopy ceiling, all light fixtures were mounted on the walls. The exclusively indirect lighting was installed in the upper wall sections, maximizing available wall space while evenly illuminating the canopy ceiling. A continuous underfloor heating system keeps the studio and exhibition walls free of radiators.
