Gestimmte Räume #1 – Requiem of Lost Forms
Design of the exhibition by Kay Walkowiak in the former k. u. k. Post and Telegraph Office
The exhibition series "Tuned Spaces" understands the space as a topos and a place to be played: While one object is placed clearly visible in the foreground, another hides in the very back and a third is barely visible.
The focus of his exhibition in the former imperial and royal post and telegraph office. Post and Telegraph Office, Kay Walkowiak placed two cinematic works: "Requiem" and "Minimal Vandalism."
The former shows a hiker moving through an idyllic mountain landscape with a blank rectangular surface as his luggage. The imagery is reminiscent of early Romantic paintings and is accompanied by Mozart's unfinished Requiem in D minor. Suddenly, an ecstatic gesture interrupts the walker's movement and the perfection of geometric form meets the rough surface of nature.
The pathetic setting of the hike is juxtaposed with the scratching rhythm of the skateboarder of "Minimal Vandalism." Its dynamic choreography counteracts the clarity of the minimalist canon of forms, mercilessly leaving its mark.
The spatial positioning of the two protagonists opens up to the viewer a parcours through the scenic nature of space - a parcours through the "Requiem of Lost Forms".
